SALT LAKE CITY (March 3, 2026) — Today, Sutherland Institute, in coordination with Y2 Analytics, released a new survey report on Utah voters’ perspectives on AI, child safety, and the future of AI use.
Highlights from the survey:
- 62% of Utahns believe AI will achieve sentience in the future.
- Voters have a net-positive view on AI in science, healthcare, research and business, but a net-negative view in education, government, policing, and family life.
- 65% of voters believe parents should be responsible for their children’s online safety with AI.
- Between 73% and 87% of voters support some level of AI regulation, depending on the use case.
“The findings within the survey report are clear,” said Derek Monson, executive director of Sutherland Institute, “Utah voters support AI innovation, but believe that AI use and regulation should be carefully balanced, while trusting parents to best educate their kids on its potential benefits and harms.”
