Dr. Ben & Candy Carson

Family Values Award Recipients

At just 33 years old, Dr. Ben Carson was named Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, a position he held for more than three decades. His groundbreaking surgical achievements and dedication to children’s health earned him numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. Following his medical career, Dr. Carson served as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, where he advanced policies to strengthen communities and expand opportunity.

Mrs. Candy Carson is an accomplished author, speaker, philanthropist, and musician. A graduate of Yale University and Johns Hopkins University, she has combined a career in business with a lifelong passion for music, performing with orchestras and ensembles across the country. She has served on boards including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Museum of the Bible’s Women’s Advisory Board.

Together, the Carsons co-founded the Carson Scholars Fund, a nonprofit organization that has, for more than 25 years, recognized and supported academic excellence and strong character in young people across America. They have co-authored several bestselling books, and Candy’s memoir, A Doctor in the House, shares insights from their family’s remarkable journey.

The Carsons are proud parents of three sons and daughters-in-law and grandparents to eight grandchildren.
